Marine plastic pollution is currently a global environmental issue

Recently, a photographer captured shocking scenes in the waters off Rotan Island in Honduras: the once clear seawater here has now been covered by large areas of plastic waste, becoming a truly garbage sea.
The diver wanted to dive into the sea, but looking at the endless plastic waste in front of him, his face showed a helpless and painful expression; The photographer captured a large number of plastic bottles, bags, and other garbage floating on the sea surface, blocking the sunlight entering the sea; Floating plastic spoons and forks are ubiquitous among the seaweed.
It is understood that most of these plastic wastes come from nearby Guatemala, where during the rainy season, rainwater flushes people's discarded plastic waste into rivers and eventually into the sea. A member of the marine conservation organization "Blue Planet Society" said that this is the most serious case of plastic waste pollution he has ever seen.
Marine plastic pollution is currently a global environmental issue. It is estimated that 4.8-12.7 million tons of plastic waste enter the ocean each year, which is equivalent to 100-300 plastic filled shopping bags for every 1 meter of coastline in coastal areas. When plastic products enter the ocean, it will begin a long journey. Sunlight will cause it to constantly decompose, age, and curl, while tides will tear it apart, transforming it from plastic bags, mineral water bottles, and takeaway food boxes at our fingertips into smaller particles that are invisible to the naked eye, and then entering the food chain.
The vast majority of fish and birds in the ocean are devastated by plastic products, dying from malnutrition, intestinal obstruction, or toxic substances adsorbed by plastic. These plastic products are like gentle killers, depositing and gathering within living organisms, ultimately taking their lives.
